In 1998 Nike released this model exclusively for defensive specialist point-guard Gary Payton of the Seattle Super Sonics. The team at Nike Basketball has decided that "The Glove" needs to come back just in time for Payton's induction to the NBA Hall of Fame in 2013. Gary Payton's career as a point guard is one of the most respected in history. He is an NBA Champion (2006), Defensive Player of The Year (1996), a 9-time NBA All-Star and Defensive First Team member, fourth all time in career steals (2,445), and seventh in assists (8,966). In fact he is the only player in NBA history to compile at least 20,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 8,000 assists, and 2,000 steals as career totals; only one of three to ever have 8,000 assists and 2,000 steals behind John Stockton and Jason Kidd.
The Nike Zoom Flight '98 aka "The Glove" was a revolutionary basketball footwear design in 1998. Payton was a master at defense and his nickname was "The Glove", so Nike designed the shoe drawing inspiration from hand gloves and their perfect fit. It featured the "Monkey Paw" technology that was developed for the Flight 98's quality of fitting like "a glove" and was the first shoe to feature a zipper to hide the lacing. Today we've seen several models feature similar designs such as the Nike Flightposite and the new Air Jordan XX8 (28). The interior of the shoe features the Exoskeleton design, which used molded skeleton-like inserts to maintain stability on the upper. True sneaker heads know "The Glove" and what it did for basketball shoe design, now you will have the opportunity to own it yourself.
